WETS06 Industrial Wireless Temperature Transmitter

The WETS06 wireless temperature transmitter replaces a wired RTD or thermocouple in places where running cable is expensive, disruptive, or simply not possible. The probe goes into your process, the head transmits on the license-free 2.4 GHz band, and a paired PS6W receiver converts the signal back into the 4-20 mA or 1-5 V dc output your panel already expects.

Line of sight range is about 1,640 feet, and up to roughly 2,500 feet with the optional 3 dBi antenna. The battery lasts up to five years at the default ten second update rate. Choose a PT100 RTD for cryogenic and general process work down to -200°C, or a Type-J or Type-K thermocouple for furnace and high temperature work up to 1200°C. Designed and built by Phoenix Sensors in Arizona.

Please note: the WETS06 is a transmitter, not a standalone sensor. It requires a compatible PS6W receiver to produce a usable output. There is no phone app; pairing is done with a DIL switch inside the unit. Order a receiver alongside the transmitter if you do not already have one.

Choosing Your Sensor Type, Thread, and Probe Length

Sensor type. This is the first decision, because it sets your temperature range. A PT100 RTD covers -200°C to 800°C and is the more accurate and stable choice across that band, which makes it the right pick for cryogenics, refrigeration, HVAC, food processing, and general industrial work. A Type-K thermocouple covers 0°C to 1200°C and is the standard for furnaces, kilns, exhaust, and metal processing. A Type-J thermocouple covers the same 0°C to 1200°C and is common on older plant equipment already wired for it. If your process never exceeds 800°C, choose the RTD.

Thread. Match the fitting already on your equipment. 1/4″-18 NPT is the standard stainless fitting across North American process equipment. 1/4″-19 BSPP suits equipment built to European and Asian standards. A third option has no thread at all: the housing is crimped directly onto the cable, which suits air, surface, and immersion measurement where there is nothing to thread into.

Probe length. Probe lengths run from 2 to 16 inches on a 0.25 in diameter stem. The probe needs to reach far enough into the flow to read the medium rather than the pipe wall, so pick a length that puts the tip near the center of the process. An optional cable, from 1 to 20 feet, separates the head from the probe so the transmitter can sit somewhere cooler or with a clearer line of sight to the receiver.

Receivers and Outputs

The transmitter pairs with one of the PS6W family of receivers. Which one you need depends on how many sensors you are running and what you want the data to do.

Receiver Output
PS6W-1 One 4-20 mA and 1-5 V dc channel, plus one relay output for alarm functions.
PS6W-5 Five 4-20 mA or 1-5 V dc channels and one relay output. Each transmitter is assigned a channel by DIL switch.
PS6W-USB Displays and logs data on any PC running desktop software.
PS6W-PORT RS-232, RS-485, or Ethernet MODBUS. Expandable to 128 analog or relay outputs with ISOSLICE I/O modules.
WEXS06-IoT-CEL Built-in cellular modem sends readings to a remote server.

A 3 dBi antenna extends range, and a swivel adaptor lets you align the head toward the receiver after installation. The same receivers work with the WEPS06 wireless pressure transmitter, so one PS6W-5 can carry a mix of temperature and pressure points on five channels.

Where It Is Used

Agricultural operations, including farms, equipment, oil tanks, and wineries. High temperature chemical and metal processing plants. Natural gas pipe equipment and process lines. Oil and gas operations. Cryogenic pumps and cold storage. HVAC and refrigeration diagnostics. Compressors and pneumatic systems. Temporary service trials where permanent instrumentation is not worth installing.

WETS06 or WEPS06?

They are the same platform measuring different things. The WETS06 measures temperature with an RTD or thermocouple probe; the WEPS06 measures pressure through a threaded port. Both transmit on 2.4 GHz to the same PS6W receivers, both run about five years on a lithium C cell, and both deliver 4-20 mA or 1-5 V dc with relay contacts for alarms. If you need both readings from one process, they can share a receiver.

Common Questions

Do I need anything besides the transmitter? Yes. A compatible PS6W receiver is required. Everything else, including the battery, ships with the unit.

RTD or thermocouple? If your process stays at or below 800°C, the PT100 RTD is more accurate and more stable over time. Above 800°C you need a Type-J or Type-K thermocouple. Below 0°C only the RTD will work, since both thermocouple options start at 0°C.

Can it trigger an alarm? Yes. The PS6W receivers provide relay contacts for alarm functions, so the WETS06 can act on a temperature threshold without anyone watching a screen.

Can the probe handle 1200°C if the electronics cannot? Yes, and this is an important distinction. The probe tip is rated for the process; the transmitter head is not. Keep the head within its operating range, and use the cable option to move it away from the heat if needed.

How long does the battery last? Up to five years at the default ten second update rate. Faster update rates shorten that; slower rates extend it. The battery is user replaceable.

Is there an installation clearance requirement? Yes. FCC RF exposure rules require at least 20 cm (8 in) between the antenna and any person during operation.

How do I pair it? DIL switches inside the unit set the RF network, update rate, and channel number. Both transmitter and receiver default to network 1, so a default unit works with a default receiver out of the box.

Need More Than a Few?

Not every configuration is stocked. If the sensor type, thread, or probe length you need is not in the dropdowns above, or you want volume pricing, private labeling, or the WETS06 designed into your own product, contact us and we will confirm availability and lead time. Every unit is temperature compensated, calibrated, and supplied with a traceable serial number.
